Society names Ed Carcarey 'Champion of the Community'

The city of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department and Mega 97.1 FM spokesman Ed Carcarey have been recognized by the California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) as District Eight award winners.

Carcarey received the “2012 Champion of the Community” award for his community outreach efforts. He’s known for supporting nonprofit groups like PLAY Inc. and the Police Activities League, always making sure his community of listeners is aware of city events.

The Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with Dignity Health Care, also received the “2012 Recreation and Community Program Award” for a healthy living program, titled “Live Well/Buen Salud.” That program was free and family centered, aiming to promote activities encouraging healthy nutrition and regular physical activity.
