Shape and paint driftwood with the Artist Guild

Bart Theiler will demonstrate how to shape and paint driftwood art at the monthly meeting of the Los Padres Artist Guild on Friday, July 13, at 6 p.m. at the Luis Oasis Senior Center at 420 Soares Ave. in Orcutt.

Theiler is a self-taught artist who began painting on barn wood in the 1970s. He collects white pine slab work from the bottom of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. He allows the wood to dry, forms it by sanding it smooth, then paints wildlife designs with acrylic. For many years, he made his living selling his artwork at art and craft shows in Northern Wisconsin, and until recently traveled to art shows across California. There’s no charge to attend the demonstration. For more info, call 934-3433 or visit lospadresartistguild.com.

Arts Briefs is compiled by Arts Editor Shelly Cone. Information should be sent to the Sun via fax, e-mail, or mail.
