Cypress Gallery holds new photo exhibit, The Quest for Hidden Gems of California

By Caleb Wiseblood

The Lompoc Valley Art Association presents The Quest for Hidden Gems of California, a new photography exhibition set to premiere at the Cypress Gallery on Thursday, Feb. 2, and remain on display through Tuesday, Feb. 28. An opening reception for the show will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This solo exhibit showcases photos by Lompoc-based photographer Susanne Schenck, who will be in attendance at the upcoming reception.

“I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures. I feel like a piece of me is missing if I don’t have some sort of camera with me,” Schenck said in press materials from the Lompoc Valley Art Association. She added that many of her photos have been taken during her various travels.

“My biggest role as a photographer, I feel, is to share my experiences. I often hike or canoe and when I go on an adventure; I want you to feel like you are there with me on my trip seeing the wonders I see,” said the photographer, who aims to capture scenes of peace and tranquility through her work. “We all need a moment to just be relaxed and calm—I try to give just that.”
