Artisan Market in Santa Ynez hosts Painted Horse Round Up event

By Caleb Wiseblood

On Saturday, April 17, the public is invited to meet the group of local artists behind the Painted Horse Project, an ongoing public art initiative, during the Painted Horse Round Up event at the Artisan Market in Santa Ynez, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Launched by the Santa Ynez Chamber of Commerce last fall, the Painted Horse Project is a collection of painted wooden horses dispersed throughout downtown Santa Ynez.

The chamber obtained a grant from Visit SYV and private donations to fund the project. Participating artists who donated their time and talent to the initiative include Suzanne Huska (whose painted horse is pictured), Susan Cobb, Nicole Pena, Laurie Owens, Joan Reden, Annie Guillemette, Natalie Asselstine, Dawn DeBartolo, and Faith K. Ortega.

“I hoped to bring something artistic for the community to experience outdoors, and this project fit perfectly,” Linda Small, executive director for the Santa Ynez Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement, discussing the project’s development.

Guests of the upcoming Painted Horse Round Up event can also look forward to a variety of artisan booths on-site. For more info on the Painted Horse Project, email linda@santaynezchamber.org.

Weekly Poll
What do you think about the county opening up the vaccine to 16-plus at some clinics?

It's about time!
I'm worried it will make it harder to get an appointment.
I would have preferred more sectors to get access before opening to everyone.
The state plans to do the same thing in about a week, so it doesn't make a big difference.
