Heart of the Valley series hosts guest speaker Joe Dana

Heart of the Valley, a free monthly history series presented by the Santa Maria Public Library, hosts its next event on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 10:15 a.m. This month’s meeting will feature guest speaker Joe Dana, who will host a presentation on his ancestor, William Goodwin Dana, the famous sea captain who settled down in the Central Coast during the 1800s. The Dana Adobe was Dana’s home in Nipomo and is now listed as a California Historical Landmark.

In collaboration with local historian Shirley Contreras, the Heart of the Valley series hosts a guest speaker on the third Saturday of each month. Topics cover various aspects of Santa Maria Valley history and nearby areas. For more info on the series, call the library’s information desk at (805) 925-0994, Ext. 8562. The library is located at 421 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria.
