Arts Fiesta planned in Santa Maria

By Rebecca Rose

Youth Arts Alive, a Santa Maria free youth arts education program, presents its first Arts Fiesta event at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center on July 13 at 6 p.m.

The Arts Fiesta will feature performances by Youth Arts Alive students in dance, music, and theater, as well as a display of the visual art students created over five weeks of summer classes at Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center and at Grogan Park.

Youth Arts Alive Alive classes included drumming with Sean Allen, acoustic music and singing with Laura Ruth, dance with Marilyn Mercado and Teresa McIntyre, theater with Caity Petterson, and visual arts with Laura-Susan Thomas, Susan Manbeian, and Charlene Callahan.

Youth Arts Alive is a project of the Santa Barbara County Action Network (SBCAN), hosted by Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, and supported by the Fund for Santa Barbara and many local individual donors. More info: info@youthartsalive.org or (805) 930-9029.

Weekly Poll
What do you think of the Lompoc prison facilities' ways of mitigating the spread of COVID-19?

Definitely cruel and unusual—more people should have received home confinement.
It was certainly inhumane; inmates couldn't even shower for almost two weeks.
It was not great but was typical of our current institutions.
I think it was adequate given the situation.
