Rose Compass artists to host gouache painting workshop

Artists Libby Smith and Nina Warner will demonstrate how to create gouache paintings at the Wildling Museum on June 9.

Smith and Warner are both members of the Rose Compass collective, a group of local artists featured in The River's Journey exhibit at the Wildling. The demonstration will include a tutorial from Smith and Warner on gouache, an opaque watercolor medium used by the artists in the exhibit. They plan to cover color mixing, composition, sketching and blocking in an image, and how to handle the paint. Some paints, papers, and other materials are provided.

The the workshop will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Wildling, located at 1511 Mission Drive, suite B, Solvang. The deadline to sign up is June 8. The fee is $50 plus a materials fee of $10. Participants of all skill levels are invited. To register, visit wildlingmuseum.org or call (805) 688-1082.
