Solvang museums and rec departments team up for excursions

The Elverhoj Museum of History and Art and the Wildling Museum of Art and Nature have teamed up with Solvang and Buellton Parks and Recreation to lead a series of educational excursions to destinations like Los Angeles and Oxnard. Museum staff will act as leaders and facilitators on the excursions, which include transportation and entrance fees to a variety of museums.

The fall excursions kick off with a visit to The Broad in Los Angeles on Sept. 27. Cost is $49 per person. The trip leaves from the Solvang Veterans Hall at 8:30 a.m. that day.

The next excursion will visit the Channel Islands Maritime Museum in Oxnard on Oct. 11, and will include the special exhibition Designs from the Deep: The Architecture of Shells. Cost is $33. The trip leaves the Solvang Veteran’s Hall at 10 a.m. that day.

An excursion to the Huntington Library Botanical Gardens is Nov. 10 and will include special exhibits as well, like Geographies of Wonder: The Evolution of National Parks; and Gardens, Art, and Commerce in Chinese Woodblock Prints. Cost is $59. The excursion leaves the Buellton Rec Center at 10 a.m. that day.

The final fall excursion is Dec. 1 and includes a visit to two Pasadena locations, the Descanso Gardens and the Norton Simon Museum, which include extensive collections of plants and Renaissance art, respectively. Cost is $59. The trip leaves at 8 a.m. from the Buellton Rec Center that day.
