Growing Grounds Gallery and Gifts, part of Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA), usually shows only the artwork of its members, but the gallery in Santa Maria also showcases local guest artists for short shows, including an upcoming showcase of the work of John Michael Byers on Nov. 27 and 28.
Byers began sharing his art with the public in TMHA’s Opening Minds and The Art of Recovery shows in 2010, and the upcoming show features his work exclusively in a show titled The Universe of John Byers. He uses watercolor and acrylic paints on canvas to create a unique “paisley art,” which will be the primary theme of the show. There will also be a few sculptures and models created by Byers.
The Universe of John Byers shows Nov. 27 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Nov. 28 from noon to 6 p.m. with an artist’s reception from 1 to 4 p.m. that day. Growing Grounds Gallery and Gifts is located at 225 E. Inger Drive, suite 101B, Santa Maria. More information is available at t-mha.org.
